With the rising costs of tickets, especially in the wake of COVID-19, people are increasingly turning to movie theater memberships like AMC Stubs A-List for a cheaper way of watching their favorite movies.
What is AMC Stubs A-List?
AMC Stubs A-List is a membership service designed to enhance the moviegoing experience for its members. With it, members can enjoy the privilege of watching up to 3 movies every week, along with other perks like waived fees, exclusive member discounts, concession upgrades, priority lanes, and more.
What You’ll Get as an AMC Stubs A-Lister
First things first, the membership fee varies depending on your location. It’s $19.95/month +tax for most states, but it’s $22.95/month+tax in select states like CO, DC, DE, and more. For those living in CA, CT, MA, NJ, or NY, it’s $24.95/month+tax.
With this membership, you’ll be able to:
1. Watch 3 Movies a Week
AMC Stubs A-List grants you the luxury of watching 3 movies every week, no strings attached. That means you have three unrestricted reservations that reset every Friday, totaling up to 12 movies a month. Without A-List, movie ticket prices can range from $10 for a weekday matinee to $15-$28 for studio blockbusters. Imagine the savings you’ll get!
2. Free Online Reservations
One standout perk is the absence of booking fees. A non-member pays $2 convenience fee per ticket while Insiders can only get zero booking fees if they purchase 4 or more tickets.
3. Your Choice of Format, Including IMAX and Dolby Cinema
Experience movies your way with access to any format, from standard screenings to premium IMAX and Dolby Cinema showings. As a member, you can enjoy the best cinematic technology without any added fees or conditions.
4. No Blackout Dates
You can reserve your movie any day and time of the year, so you have the freedom to watch movies on your schedule.
5. A-List Entourage
This feature lets you coordinate movie nights effortlessly. With A-List Entourage you can connect with friends who also have A-List memberships and book movies together.
6. Access to Member-Only Perks
Enjoy exclusive in-house perks like a 10% rebate on food and drink purchases, large size popcorn and fountain drinks, birthday rewards, and priority lanes at concessions and the box office.
Is AMC Stubs A-List the Right Choice for You?
While AMC Stubs A-List can be an excellent deal for many, it may not be for everyone. The question of whether or not the subscription is worth it depends on how often you watch movies and if you are willing to stick with one movie chain. Also, the accessibility of AMC theaters in proximity to your home/office should be something you need to consider.
- If you watch a movie once a month or less, you’ll end up spending more on AMC Stubs A-List than on individual movie tickets.
- If you want a movie two or three times a month, the subscription may either break even or result in savings.
- Enjoy family movie outings at AMC Theater with special pricing for children’s tickets! Perfect for unforgettable cinematic experiences.
- If you’re a frequent moviegoer, visiting 5 or more times a month, you will definitely save a lot of money by becoming an A-Lister.
Customer Testimonials
Here are some customer reviews for AMC’s membership programs:

It can pay for itself when just watching one movie if you decide to watch it in IMAX or Dolby Cinema. Those tickets for a night showing are around $20 alone. When I had AMC A List before the pandemic, all I did was select either Dolby Cinema or IMAX.

Best value in my opinion. To put it into perspective, my friend had to pay $21 for an IMAX ticket while my A-List was only $24 a month and I have already watched 8 movies worth $200 already this month.

The only way it’s not valuable is: (1) you have no interest in going to watch ANY movies at least once per month, including the “big” movie that will come out in IMAX or Dolby. These ticket prices push $24 depending on the area you live in. (2) if you only go to the theater at most 2 times a month on discount Tuesdays for standard formats.
If you only go to the standard viewings on discount Tuesdays and only for the “big” movies, you’re already pretty much set, there’s really no reason for you to spend more.
A-List is still one of the best offers for movie going in my opinion. Use it weekly. I do end up buying food much more regularly from the theater as well (AMC’s mission accomplished), but in a way, it can be a money saver and very often much more convenient.
I hit up the gym after work on Thursdays and by the time I’m done, there’s very little room to get “reasonably priced” food before the theater. When fast food is pushing $15 for a combo, buying a $16 salad or chipotle chicken sammich at my Dine-In, it’s totally worth the direct drive to the theater while I watch Nicole Kidman on the big screen.

For $19.95 (Price going up to $25) you get to watch up to 3 movies a week and unlike Movie Pass you can watch those 3 films anyway you want. You can do a double or triple feature if you want to. See the film in any of AMC’s film formats: Dolby Vision, 4Dx, Imax, Imax 3D, AMC DineIn and whatever else they come up with. Best of all you can prebook and easily cancel you booking up to 20 minutes before showtime. The AMC App is a dream to use and it includes a free subscription to AMC’s Stubs program.
